talking about h1 tags. can you put a css tag above an h1 tag? i am talking about using a header that is bigger than h1 and listing it just above the h1 tag in the code.

i have created 4 examples of different tactics. i'm asking people to find out which one (if any) are OK for SEO.

Right you are (were), thanks for reminding me. I'm now going to test having my individual pages be h1s, and look forward to seeing the results.

One of the potential pitfalls is that the styling of the title is designed to be exactly the same as the headers on the home page, which are rightfully h2s (repeating h1's would be no good). What effect will identically styled header tags be? Certainly Google knows the font size and other computed styles, and given that the header was an h2 on a page with no h1s, it may make no difference what-so-ever.

I'll let you know if I see anything interesting happen.
